Current and useful information in one place.

Dear parents and guardians. The compulsory insurance regulations stipulate conditions and limitations for the use of sick leave (childcare) and escort services, which all healthcare providers must adhere to. If you require documentation to exercise these rights, you must visit our clinic within three days at the latest, bringing your child's and your health cards. In cases of escorting a child, you must also bring a medical report or certificate indicating that you accompanied the child to the healthcare provider. Whenever a child's condition is more serious and the expected care exceeds three days, a check-up with our pediatrician is also required. More information about these rights is detailed below.

The right to compensation for childcare is granted to one of the parents, or a foster parent and guardian, when they are actually caring for and looking after the child, or to a spouse or cohabiting partner, when they are actually caring for and looking after the child of their spouse or cohabiting partner. The entitled person can exercise this right until the child reaches 18 years of age or as long as parental custody lasts. If the other spouse is unemployed, retired, or can provide care without a conflict with their work, they are not entitled to such a right. The duration of the right to compensation is limited to 7 calendar days (older children over 7 years old) or 20 calendar days (younger children under 7 years old or older children with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual and physical disabilities). When the child's health condition requires it, the competent designated physician may extend the duration of the compensation to a maximum of 14 working days (older child) or up to 30 working days (younger children under 7 years old or older children with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual and physical disabilities). In exceptional cases, the duration of the compensation may be extended upon the proposal of the professional collegium of the Pediatric Clinic.

To avoid potential issues, we want to emphasize that it is currently not possible to issue childcare for the time the child is hospitalized. However, we can issue accompaniment for the day the child is admitted and the day the child is discharged from the hospital.

A child up to the age of 15, and a child or adolescent with severe or profound intellectual and physical disabilities up to the age of 18, has the right to an escort on any trip to a healthcare provider for the purpose of receiving any healthcare service, regardless of whether the trip is to a provider outside their place of residence or within their place of residence, and regardless of their health condition or other reasons for which an escort may otherwise be approved for an insured person. An older child has the right to an escort under the same conditions as other insured persons, meaning only if they are unable to travel alone due to their health condition or other reasons, and must travel outside their place of residence because there is no suitable provider in that place.

We are starting influenza vaccinations for the 2025/26 season. Available is INFLUVAC TETRA vaccine. Flu vaccination is free for all persons with valid mandatory health insurance. Advance booking is required for vaccination.

Influenza poses a significant threat to public health and has a major impact on morbidity and mortality. In young patients without chronic diseases, the illness typically presents as a feverish state lasting several days, accompanied by respiratory symptoms and muscle and joint pain. However, in patients with chronic illnesses, elderly patients, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with extreme obesity, the disease can manifest with a more severe clinical picture, frequent complications, and higher mortality. The most effective way to protect ourselves from influenza is through annual vaccination, therefore Vaccination is recommended for everyone who wants to protect themselves and their loved ones from illness., although vaccination success may be lower in some groups (elderly, chronically ill, immunocompromised...). Vaccination against influenza is especially recommended for chronically ill patients, the elderly, young children (from 6 months to 2 years of age), pregnant women, and individuals who are excessively overweight. Vaccination is also especially recommended for people whose work exposes them to the risk of infection or who may transmit infection to other people in their work, especially healthcare professionals and staff, and other emergency services. The Section for Primary Pediatrics within the Slovenian Paediatric Association has issued expert guidelines that define the inclusion of children in kindergarten/school, considering their health status. In practice, it is observed that parents often request approval for temporary leave from work for child’s care because kindergartens/schools frequently refuse the inclusion of a child in an educational institution due to minor health problems. Perhaps the reason for this is the fear of »Covid-19« infection, which of course must be taken seriously with all preventive measures, but on the other hand, not every condition is an infection or contagious disease that would require a child to be kept away from school. Guidelines for pediatrician consultations, if necessary, are also defined. Welcome to read!

The first newborn check-up with your chosen pediatrician is usually done at one month of age. In case of newborn problems, an earlier check-up is necessary. We recommend that you schedule an appointment at our clinic in person or by phone with our nurse after returning from the maternity hospital. For the first check-up, please bring your child's health card and discharge papers from the maternity hospital. Infants can use their parents' health insurance card only up to 60 days of age; after that, they must have their own card. For all newborns and infants who do not have a chosen pediatrician at our clinic, we also perform private pay check-ups and vaccinations by appointment.

Slovenia is endemic area for Lyme disease – one of the tick-borne diseases. Ticks are infected nationwide, so vaccination recommended for all persons older than one year. For children from 1 year of age, born in 2016 or later, Three doses of the vaccine are covered by compulsory health insurance (CHI).Primary vaccination is administered with three doses of the vaccine (the interval between the first and second doses is 1 to 3 months, and the third dose is given 5 to 12 months after the second dose). Protection is renewed with one dose every three to five years. We vaccinate all year round. If vaccination begins in spring or summer, it is usually done according to a rapid schedule. In this case, the interval between the first and second doses is only two weeks, which achieves a fast and adequate immune response.

You are invited to schedule your child – and yourself – for vaccination!
