Seborrheic dermatitis

Do you experience redness, flaking, and itching on your scalp, face, or other skin areas? Are you bothered by greasy yellowish scales, a feeling of irritated skin, or recurring inflammation?

What is seborrheic dermatitis?

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that most commonly occurs in areas with a higher density of sebaceous glands. It most frequently affects the scalp, eyebrows, the area around the nose, ears, chest, and upper back. The exact cause of its development is not fully explained, but the development of the disease is influenced by a combination of factors such as increased sebum secretion, the presence of naturally occurring yeasts on the skin, genetic predisposition, hormonal influences, and the immune system's response. Symptoms can also be worsened by stress, fatigue, weather changes, and certain health conditions.

Seborrheic dermatitis is characterized by red, irritated skin with flaking, which can be dry or oily. On the scalp, it often appears as persistent dandruff, accompanied by itching and discomfort. The condition typically occurs in periods of improvement and worsening and can recur frequently without proper treatment. Although it is not a dangerous disease, it can significantly affect a person's appearance, self-confidence, and quality of life.

Specialized assessment and treatment options

Since many inflammatory skin conditions have similar symptoms, a visit to the dermatologist is important for a correct diagnosis. A dermatological examination allows for the assessment of the extent and severity of changes and can differentiate seborrheic dermatitis from other conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, or fungal skin infections.

If necessary, dermatoscopy is also performed, which allows for a more detailed examination of changes on the skin and scalp. Based on the findings, the dermatologist prepares an individualized treatment and care plan, tailored to the individual and the severity of the disease. The goal of modern dermatological treatment is to reduce inflammation, scaling, and itching, soothe the skin, and reduce the frequency of disease recurrence in the long term.

Gradual improvement of skin health

With proper care and dermatological treatment, the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis can be effectively managed, achieving longer periods without significant issues.

The skin can gradually become less irritated, reducing flaking, itching, and discomfort. Its appearance will also improve. An important part of long-term disease management includes regular care, identifying triggers, and timely treatment of flare-ups.

The goal of modern treatment is not only to reduce the visible signs of a disease, but also to improve the long-term health of the skin, as well as the individual's comfort and quality of life.
