After a mastopexy, mild to moderate swelling, a feeling of tightness, and tenderness in the breast area are usually present. Most patients describe the pain as moderate and significantly less intense than they expected. Discomfort is most pronounced in the first few days after surgery, then gradually subsides.
An important part of recovery is wearing a compression bra, which supports tissues, reduces swelling, and aids in proper healing. Compression underwear is recommended to be worn continuously for approximately four weeks after the procedure. During this time, more intense sports and strenuous physical exertion are not advised.
Most patients can return to light daily activities after about one week. The final shape of the breasts, however, gradually forms over several weeks or months as the swelling completely subsides and the tissues settle.
Proper scar care is also very important. Modern techniques ensure that scars are as inconspicuous as possible, and with appropriate care, they become softer and lighter over time.
