What is the recovery process like after blepharoplasty?

Recovery after blepharoplasty is usually quick, and most patients are surprised by how quickly their face starts to look fresh and rested again.

Blepharoplasty is considered a procedure with a relatively short recovery period, however, it is important to understand that swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness after surgery are a normal part of the healing process.

What is usual after the procedure?

After blepharoplasty, you may experience:

  • swelling around the eyes,
  • underwater operations,
  • light sensitivity,
  • feeling of eyelid tension,
  • seasonal tearing or dry eyes.

Most of these changes gradually subside in the first few days or weeks after the procedure. Cooling the operated area and rest usually significantly reduce swelling.

When can you return to people?

Most patients

  • remove stitches after 5-7 days,
  • after about a week, returns to lighter daily activities,
  • after 10-14 days it looks significantly fresher,
  • After a few weeks, you'll notice a more natural final appearance.

It's important not to judge the results too early in the first few weeks, as the tissues gradually soften and settle.

For a better recovery, we recommend:

  • enough rest,
  • eyelid cooling,
  • sun protection,
  • avoiding physical exertion,
  • following the surgeon's instructions.

Most patients describe recovery as less demanding than they expected, and what surprises them most is how much even minor changes to the eyelids can impact the overall appearance of the face.
