Dupuytren's contracture

Do you notice tightness or hardness in your palm? Do you feel like you can no longer fully extend your fingers? Are these problems hindering your grip on objects or daily tasks?

What is Dupuytren's contracture?

Dupuytren's contracture is a condition characterized by thickening and gradual tightening of the connective tissue in the palm of the hand. Due to changes in the tissue, the fingers progressively bend towards the palm and can no longer be fully straightened.

The ring finger and little finger are most commonly affected, and the changes usually develop slowly over a longer period. Individuals often first notice lumps or tightening in the palm, followed by limited finger movement.

Although the condition may not cause pain initially, it can eventually significantly affect arm function and make daily activities such as shaking hands, dressing, or gripping objects difficult.

Specialized assessment and treatment options

Because other tendon or hand joint conditions can cause similar problems, a specialist assessment is important for a correct diagnosis.

A specialist examination allows for a more accurate assessment of the degree of finger contracture, connective tissue involvement, and the impact of the problems on hand function. Based on the examination, appropriate treatment can be recommended according to the progression of the disease and individual needs.

Hand surgery allows for modern treatment of hand and finger diseases, while Dupuytren's contracture surgery helps to release affected connective tissue and improve hand mobility and functionality.

Gradual improvement of arm mobility

With appropriate treatment, individuals can often experience improved finger mobility and find it easier to perform daily tasks. The hand can become more functional and comfortable to use again.

The goal of modern specialized treatment is not only to reduce limitations in movement but also to improve long-term hand functionality and quality of life.
